Yoga

Yoga means union; of the mind, body and spirit - as well as with a power greater than ourselves. The Sivananda style of Hatha yoga is challenging and highly rewarding; physically, mentally and spiritually.

Hatha yoga promotes physical purification by a series of asanas (yoga postures) and pranayama (breath or 'life-force').

Through the science of yoga, the physical body is strengthened and stretched; muscles, flexibility, and endurance are all developed. Unlike the harsh, forceful movements that are typically used in the gym or high-impact activities, yoga is a gentle way of learning to connect with your body. Regular elongation of the muscles helps to slim the figure whilst developing strength and tone. Mentally; levels of balance, co-ordination and concentration are increased.

Yoga asanas stimulate and revitalise the internal organs and glands as well as enhancing spiritual capacities. The series of specially designed movements promote a fresh blood supply to the entire nervous system. Regular proper practise results in a healthy toned body - inside and out - and balanced mind.

Anybody can practise yoga and many find it a hugely rewarding component to a healthy lifestyle.

Welcome to Sarada Yoga

Sarada means 'giver of essence' or one who gives essential knowledge. It was a name kindly offered to me by the Swamis following completion of training. Sarada is also another name for Saraswati - the goddess of knowledge, intellect, creativity and the arts. She is often depicted sitting on a lotus holding an instrument, prayer beads and a book.

Yoga offers numerous benefits. It gives the whole body a thorough work-out including cardiovascular, increasing heart-rate, strengthening muscles, stretching, increasing flexibility and balance. Yoga improves co-ordination and concentration. It can also reduce stress, tension and help promote relaxation and rest.
